9-Jan-2008 Paul B: I shall be buying either the Acer Aspire 5920G-302G25Hi Laptop - LX.AN60X.041 or the Acer Aspire 7720G-302G32Hi Laptop - LX.ALN0X.248. My question is which is the better for my needs I am mighty impressed with both to tell you the truth and have been reading all the views for pointers being a first time buyer. I shall be mostly surfing the net and general emails, though my main other purpose shall be transfering home videos with the use of a camcorder, though both have firewire for this purpose one has a larger screen though the other a better graphics card and wireless 'N' which i am not sure off its use, so also appreciate that info also, one also has a larger hardrive, and one a HDMI port, so what would you do as I am so confussed. many thanks for your advice in advance

Easycom: Hi Paul, there isnt really much difference between them, if you'll be doing any gaming then the better graphics card would be worth considering, otherwise not important. Wireless 'n' is in draft form at the moment, when it becomes more widespread in the future it will offer faster wireless network speeds. With a HDMI port you would be able to connect it up to a HD ready TV and play proper HD movies through the laptop's drive.

9-Jan-2008 Stoods: For the Optical Storage, it says the type is "HD DVD-ROM - integrated" Does this mean there is no DVD / CD writing facility on this laptop?

Easycom: The HD DVD ROM drives can also write normal DVDs.

My question is how do I know if my laptop has Vista Home installed as it says as it did not come in addition to the laptop as shown in a green coloured box Vista Home package. 2-Apr-2008 Jamie: I have to replace my current laptop (Win XP, 2GHz T2500, 2 GB RAM, ATI radeaon mobility x1600 graphics card, 100 GB HDD, DVD RW). I am looking for something new that beats these specifications. I have been drawn to the 5920G and the 7720G. I want to play games as well as watch films and use the usual array of home office products. Which of these machines should I go for? Is ACER a good make with high build quality? Do I need to purchase an additional warranty?

5-Apr-2008 Shaun B: I bought this model 1 week ago and it is fantastic its replaced my desktop and is working better. My desktop was built to a high spec and this laptop does everything my desktop did and more, its albe to keep up with myself multitasking which my desktop was starting to struggle with. Working in IT Acers were a cheaper computer to start with, now owning one i can see it works 10 times better then any leading brands and are able to keep up with the most demanding user. This is my first Acer (as a home user) but not my last, i will be buying more as and when they needed. Highly recommended

11-Apr-2008 Misha: I bought this product after missing out on the Aspire 5863WLMi and wasn`t disapointed. It has everything i need in a laptop and has replaced my 3 year old laptop (1.5Ghz) well. My only gripe with it is Vista!! but that`s a small gripe and found that i can live it (after so many years of XP) Like others this is my 1st ever Acer product and would recommend this laptop and the company to anyone,they provided a 1st rate product and a 1st rate level of service. Many thanks. Just a small tip to buyers :- if you see something you like @ the right specs for what you need don`t dwell on it to long,this is how i missed out on the Aspire 5863WLMi @ 2Ghz just lucky for me i ended up with something better :)

Easycom: You would need a new power lead with a japanese plug on the end, or a travel adapter. the AC adapter should be able to cope with whatever voltage they use.

Easycom: Yes it should run it, as long as it is also compatible with Vista.

29-Jun-2008 Jeff: The Integrated Camera only has a Sensor Resolution of 0.3 Megapixels. I guess this is this sufficient for video communication using Skype Standard video calling which offers a resolution of up to 320X240 pixels (QVGA) at 15 frames per second (fps). But is it sufficient for their High Quality Video, which offers improved quality, transmitting video at 640x480 pixels (VGA) at up to 30 fps?

Easycom: The CrystalEye camera is a 640x480 camera (simply multiply 640 by 480 for the pixel res) - It does capture at 30fps max, so should be fine.

Easycom: They come with driver and software discs, the Windows installation is part of the system restore data, which is on a hard drive partition but can be burned to disc also.

10-Jul-2008 datas: I'd like to connect the sound output to my 5.1 home theatre sound system. I understand this laptop has spdif output as part of the 3.5mm headphone output - is this correct? Will it output digital 5.1 sound? What audio cable do you recommend I purchase to do this? Thanks

Easycom: You need a Mini TOSlink cable that plugs into the 3.5mm headphone jack - though it is actually an optical cable and will require an optical input on your sound system (please be aware that most optical inputs on soundsystems are TOSlink and not Mini-toslink so you will need a cable that has TOSlink at one end and Mini-TOSlink at the other).

14-Jul-2008 Matt: Can you take off vista and put windows XP on before I buy the aspire 5902G. If so will it cost any extra.

Easycom: It does not come with backup disks. If you want them we can make them for you for a little extra or, alternatively, your laptop is capable of making backup disks if you want to make them yourself.

Easycom: It will have no problems with AOL wireless/FM08/sims2 and is ideal for surfing the web. The only trouble is running Flight Sim X at the highest graphics settings, as this is a very demanding application and so you will have to reduce the quality a bit to get a good framerate. Even the most powerful desktop graphics cards struggle to run FSX at the highest settings.

22-Jul-2008 nom99: hello I was also wondering as I'm getting confused what the difference between LX.AN60X.041 and LX.AKV0X.146 and LX.AKV0X.108 are? mainly do they all have the same spec for screen, audio and mic., camera, RAM, card readers and connectivity? I'm finding it hard to choose one! cheers

Easycom: These laptops use the same chassis (5920) but they are different specifications. LX.AKV0X.146 has a slower CPU but bigger HDD (useful if you need more storage but don't run cpu intensive applications) where as the LX.AKV0X.108 has the smaller hard drive and faster CPU, for when you do need extra power for CPU intensive applications. LX.AN60X.041 is a 5920G, the G at the end means it has a good graphics card for gaming. It also has a much bigger hard drive than both the 5920s. They all have 2GB ram, cameras, card readers, wifi connectivity, etc. - The 5920G does have a higher-capacity battery (8 cell instead of 6 cell) and also a HD-DVD drive. Personally I would go for the 5920G due to the better overall specification, but it's all down to your personal requirements. Hope this helps

Easycom: I believe the Firewire speed is 400mbit/s, as the information from Acer states IEEE 1394, not 1394b.

28-Jul-2008 MDB: I was trying to work out the difference between the Acer Aspire 5920G Gemstone Laptop - LX.AN60X.041 priced at £479.98 and the Acer Aspire 5920G (H) Gemstone Laptop - LX.AN60X.001 priced at £549.97 There doesn't seem to be an obvious difference in the spec but given the price difference I feel I might be missing something. Hope you can help me out.

Easycom: These two laptops are almost identical. However, the LX.AN60X.001 model has a DVD re-writer as opposed to the LX.AN60X.041 which can only read DVDs. That is why there is a difference in price. Thanks

30-Jul-2008 alwg: I have ordered the LX.AN60X.041 and was told by customer services that it is DVD RW. I also read the feedback above and it said the HD DVD was compatible with all formats including DVD RW. However on 28 July 2008 the following was said "These two laptops are almost identical. However, the LX.AN60X.001 model has a DVD re-writer as opposed to the LX.AN60X.041 which can only read DVDs. That is why there is a difference in price. Thanks" This seems to conflict with earlier advice and so as I don't want a machine that can't write to a DVD or CD can you let me know what is correct?

Easycom: It can write to both CDs and DVDs, nearly all laptops have this capability these days.

31-Jul-2008 OFI: Please could you tell me the maximum resolutions available on the external VGA port. There also appears to be differing advice on the TurboCache/Turbo Memory. The spec here says it has Turbo Memory, elsewhere I have seen it described as having 1Gb of TurboCache on the GFX chipset. On 7-12-2007 Easycom said "this has the Turbocache built in to the graphics card but no turbo memory. Please call us to discuss your upgrade requirements." However on 22-11-2007 Robin asked "Please confirm this model has the 1GB of turbo memory." and Easycom responded "Yes it does" Please could you clarify! Thanks.

Easycom: This laptop has Intel 1GB Turbomemory - The graphics card has 256MB of dedicated memory (NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GS 256 MB) which is expandable to 1024MB via 768MB of shared system memory using TurboCache technology.

Easycom: No, this laptop has a HD-DVD drive (High-Definition DVD) which is a different format to Blu-Ray, and unfortunately you can not play Blu-Ray discs in HD-DVD drives.

Easycom: Between those two, the 5920G is the one to go for as it has a better spec graphics card which you will appreciate when gaming. Be aware that the 7720G is a 17-inch laptop and the 5920G is a 15-inch laptop. If you want a 7720G with the same graphics chip as the 5920G then have a look at LX.ANU0U.106

Now in limbo again. been contemplating the LX.AN60X.001 but its slightly over my budget SOo need a machine with dedicated graphics for my Sims addiction!!! what would you recommend now? would the LX.AKV0X.108 still suffice???? cheers

Easycom: The LX.AKV0X.108 should be ok with the sims even with the integrated graphics card. If you are specifically looking for something with a dedicated graphics card why not have a look at the ASUS F3 series product codes F3SC-AP115C and F3SR-AP074C

Easycom: A combined headphone/lineout socket allows you to connect your headphones/external speakers/devices using a 3.5mm jack. This has an s-video out that could be used to connect to a television or home cinema system.

Easycom: 1 The only difference is the draft N wireless connectivity. 2 There isn't anything on the cards as of yet as to a release with this graphics card. 3 Apart from the 256MB it has the 1GB of turbo cache memory. 4 As far as quality is concerned this will be fine for gerneral internet use eg MSN. 5 Unfortunatley it seems to come with the 2 partitions as standard. 6 The restore data including the operating system is on a hidden partition on the hard drive. 7 The LX.AN60X.041 is currently out of stock however will be backl in stock within the next few days. Easycom: HD resolution is either 1280 x 720 or 1920×1080 and works off a ratio of 16/9 which is standard wide screen. This laptop has a resolution of 1280 x 800 which is in between the two and as it is a 15.4" screen and therefore isn't quite 16/9 and true HD.
